I’ve become a storage addict. I like for things to have a “home” in our house. It’s just easier for me. I don’t spend forever looking for something if I know where it goes (the key is remembering to put things back). I also like things to be pretty.
Recently I was on the hunt for a recipe box. When I got married, one of the most treasured gifts I received was a recipe box. It was filled with handwritten recipes from people who were in some way a part of our wedding. Some of them are no longer with us, but even if I’m not making that particular recipe, it makes my heart smile to come across familiar handwriting and a special note. And heart smiles are good for the soul.
My problem finding the perfect recipe box was I couldn’t find one big enough. The cards I had seemed to be too wide for the standard box.
And then I found this..
It’s an enamel ware box with a lid and it was in great shape. One of the many treasures I’ve found over the years at antique stores/thrift stores… It’s perfect. Beside it I have an old recipe box that belonged to my husband’s aunt. She got it from her husband’s mother. Needless to say, there are plenty of old recipes in that one.
Things don’t have to be “typical” storage ideas. Improvise, use what you love, and go on a treasure hunt for the perfect one. You just might find it.
