I recently finished a $100 kitchen makeover and most of my time/money was spent painting. However, I also did a lot of cleaning. A LOT. That’s an added bonus to doing a room makeover – it forces you to clean, clean, clean. One thing I’ve had issues with when it comes to cleaning is our stainless steel appliances. No matter what I do, they always seem to look smudgy and streaky. So I tried a few different cleaning products and guess what? No fancy products needed. Nope. This is the easiest way to clean stainless steel appliances. In fact, you probably already have these 3 items in your kitchen!
The Easiest Way to Clean Stainless Steel Appliances
Brace yourself. This is so easy and works like a charm. Three things – olive oil, vinegar, and Magic Erasers. Yep. That’s it. 3 little inexpensive items make for the easiest way to clean stainless steel appliances. If you’re like me, your fridge is probably covered with magnets, papers, pictures, and other random things that end up there. It can get pretty junky looking quickly. And I’m guilty of hardly ever taking all that stuff off to clean. Gross I know.
Here’s the gross before:
So here’s what you do. Take it all off. Trash the junky magnets that barely stick. In my case, I had to toss a few artistic creations from my 7-year-old that had water streaks all over them. Use a paper towel with plain white vinegar and clean all the surfaces. Then get your Magic Erasers and some elbow grease and clean. I won’t even show you the filth that was on mine. You’ll be surprised. And grossed out. I went through several erasers before I was certain it was clean.
After this step, it was clean, but didn’t look very good. Still streaky and smudged looking. I use a clean cloth and put a little olive oil on it. Wipe the fridge in one direction with the olive oil. And that’s it!! Good as new! Now you have a clean, even looking fridge again.
And the clean after!
I’ll admit, it did seem a little too boring for me with nothing on it. Even my kids and husband complained that it was too generic looking in there. So I added a few pics and our dry erase calendar. I cleaned all the other appliances in the kitchen the same way and it worked wonders.
Do you have any tried and true easy cleaning methods? I’d love to know!
