So Close to Amazing

Book launch so close to amazing karianne woodThis is a little deviation from my normal DIY, decor style post.  But, I think it’s something you’ll enjoy.  I am fortunate to be part of a group of very special people celebrating a book launch.  And not just any book launch.  The book launch of an immensely talented lady.  And let’s just be honest – Pretty much my idol of the blogging world.  And believe me, it’s not just another book about decor (which I love those too).     It’s a story, a journey, and it’ll suck you in from Chapter 1.  If you’re a reader, this one’s for you.  Or if you’re looking for inspiration, this one’s for you.  If you’ve ever felt “so close to amazing”, this one’s for you.

If you’re into DIY, farmhouse style, funny stories, red lipstick, and heartfelt stories, chances are you’ve heard of Karianne Wood from Thistlewood Farm.  I’ve followed her blog for years.  Her house is pretty much my dream house.  Think rescued furniture finished to a T, gorgeous lighting, porches, wood floors, and more.  But – it’s not just the house.  It’s the way she tells her stories.  They are real and honest.  You can tell she’s the kind of person you’d sit and have a giant glass of sweet tea with.  She’s a queen of DIY and story telling so it’s pretty fitting that she wrote a book.

I’m new at this blogging game.  It’s hard, time-consuming, scary, and huge.  I was feeling overwhelmed.  And I know that won’t make sense to some and that’s ok.  But I thought, why not.  I reached out to Karianne for one of her blog consults.

And apparently, I got the last one.

She’s writing and super busy now.  But you know what?  She gave me nearly 2 hours of her time.  We talked, laughed, and I learned more than I ever thought possible.  And honestly, I pretty much considered us BFFs after the talk.  Creepy – probably.  My husband looked at me like I was a unicorn.  He’s not into this decor/blogging world, so he thought it was super weird.  But so what.  I didn’t mind looking like a unicorn for a day.

I was given the opportunity to be a part of the book launch group.  Now, I love to read, but unfortunately, a job, 2 small kids, a house, a husband, and starting this blog doesn’t leave a lot of time for reading.  So when I got the chance to read this book before it’s released, I jumped on it.

And then I started reading the book.  The object of the group was supposed to be like this – read a chapter a week, discuss….  read some more, discuss.  However…. I don’t think many people could wait long enough to go a week between chapters.  Many of us commented they read it in one sitting.

The title is “So Close to Amazing”.  Just think back on your life for a second and think of all those times you’ve been so close to amazing.  Could be something simple.  Could be life changing.  Think of the times you’ve considered “jumping” into something that was unknown and scary, but you did it anyway.  If you can relate to anything remotely similar, this book is for you.

And the best part is, if you pre-order on or before September 4th, you’ll get not only the book, but some pretty amazing bonuses also.

So Close to Amazing

And here’s a little funny tale of my own “so close to amazing” moment.  Christmas Eve 2016.  We usually host dinner at my house and pretend we are fancy.

Notice the word pretend.  We are anything but fancy.

Invite some neighbors, all the kids play, and we are all super excited for Santa to arrive.  I have a gorgeous turkey in the oven.  Timer goes off, everyone is starving.  Turkey looks AMAZING from the outside.  Get it transferred to my super fancy platter that I got on clearance at Kroger.  Beautiful.  Let it rest.  Mouths are watering.  Start to carve it.

And just look at all the uncooked pink juice running all over.  Not even remotely close to done.  Not even remotely close to amazing.  Start to panic because we have super hungry kids, not to mention adults.  I think to myself – “nice party lady, your guests will be eating PB&J for Christmas Eve dinner.”  But you know what?  No one is mad, no one is angry –  everyone laughs and back in the oven it goes.  My friends are so kind and understanding.  Even when dinner is nearly 2 hours late. My friends and family are not just “close to amazing” – they are amazing.

And when that turkey finally finished cooking – it was amazing too.

I’d love to hear your “so close to amazing” moments.  And thanks for stopping by Brown Dog Vintage!

I’d love for you to follow along with me on InstagramPinterestFacebook, or Google+

We’ve all had those #soclosetoamazing moments and so we relate. What a blessing truly amazing friends and family are! The kind that just laugh and understand because they’ve been there too.

And yep, as part of the launch team, I read right through the book too. It’s so good!!!
